cultural education program

Organized and implemented 100% by volunteers.

Volunteers take weekly treks—by bus, taxi, train, bike, carriage and other means—
to these rural areas to provide the following activities during the program year.

A. English Language Classes are held at a community center or school-based site.

B. Cultural Activity Sessions teach children about four different countries each year through planned activities:

scotland in mex1. General education about countries around the world (i.e. geography, demographics, language, history).

2. Arts & crafts themed on the four countries chosen for the school year

3. Indoor and outdoor games, including sports from the four countries

C.  A Media Library of resources about different ountries is available at each site for students, anytime the centers are open.

D. Computer Lab gives students access to computers they would not otherwise have.

E. Food is provided during a regular program day. For example, at our Mexico site, children are provided with a snack and drink in the morning, and a full lunch at noon. Additionally, with each Cultural Session, children will enjoy food from the country being studied at the cultural party.

F. Holiday Celebrations from around the world are hosted 3-5 times during the school year.

G.  Camps - Each program year ends with an Olympics Camp where children compete in various fun activities in teams representing the countries they have learned about during the year.

An element of this program enjoyed by the children we serve every year is the world-wide running of the Manos Friendship Torch (see the video).
